Profile

Porsche kept the stunning Carrera GT, their fastest road car to date, a closely guarded secret until its unveiling at the 2000 Paris Motor Show.

The carbonfibre bodied GT gives spectacular performance from its 604bhp mid mounted V10 and, as we've come to expect from Porsche, stopping power will be awesome thanks to the use of 15 inch ceramic disks and 6-pot callipers at the front! Straight line grunt is superb (0-100mph in under 8 sec) but a 7min 30sec Nurburgring lap is more of a testament to the GT's handling prowess. Gadgets include a data logging system with screen and camera, automatic rear spoiler and a fully electric folding steel roof.

Production of the 1270, £360,000 left hand drive models ceased in 2006. Used models were fetching only half their original cost a few years ago, but the current market has seen prices rocket for the fast appreciating Carrera GT.

Overall an amazing driving experience from, what was considered at the time, to be the world's greatest supercar.
