  De Tomaso Pantera  (1971 - 1989)

Profile

Ford approached De Tomaso in the spring of 1969 with a view to producing a niche market sports car. An agreement was signed and the following year the Pantera GT was born. The Pantera combined bodies sculptured by Ghia (owned at that time by De Tomaso) with power provided by the ubiquitous Ford V8.

This combination was not received well by all. Traditionalists did not warm to a 'mass produced' engine in a car with no racing pedigree. This indifference, coupled with the early 70's fuel crisis, put an end to the Pantera in the USA, although it continued to be available to order in Europe.
