  Maserati Bora  (1971 - 1979)

Profile

Following the Maserati tradition of naming their cars after winds, the mid-engined Bora first appeared in 1971. 500 of these gorgeous Giugiaro styled coupes were produced from 1971, with a 4.9 litre upgrade appearing in 1977.

Compromises were made to give the Bora a more stable, GT like ride at the expense of ultimate handling. This plus the Bora's hefty 3000lb plus weight gave adequate rather than spectacular performance. Citroen, Maserati's owners, developed innovative hydraulic systems for braking and pedal adjustment to ensure an ideal driving position for the occupant.
