Ford's rally bred Sierra RS Cosworth bought supercar pace and handling into the grasp of the everyday public. Just £16,000 gave you performance to embarrass many so called supercars. Ford transformed the standard Sierra with handling and body modifications (including the memorable giant rear spoiler) then Cosworth, a famous name in racing circles, tuned the 2 litre turbo engine to a powerful 204bhp, with the potential to handle a lot more.
A limited run of 500 RS500 Cosworths appeared in 1987 with even more power and body modifications, then in 1989 the Sierra became the Sierra Sapphire 4 door saloon with a 4X4 following in 1990. The 'Cossie' will be remembered as possible the performance bargain of the 80's - if you could have afforded the insurance!
