Just 25 CLK GTR road cars were produced at a (then) world record £1.1M pounds each - making even the McLaren F1 seem like a bargain!
This road going racer was produced by AMG as a homologation special for Mercedes' Le Mans exploits. The road version features a racing style carbon fibre monocoque with the engine bolted directly on, lightweight kevlar bodywork and a large rear wing for added downforce. The racing style sequential gearbox whilst at home on the track has proved problematic for road use.
The GTR does make some concessions to comfort with leather seating, air con and even a CD, although owners are unlikely to hear it over the tremendous noise of the V12 engine!
