The original 986 Boxster concept appeared way back at the 1993 Detroit motor show, eventually making production in 1996. This water cooled 'entry-level' Porsche was an immediate hit with its punchy performance, excellent grip and distinctive good looks, inspired by the racing Porsche 550's of the 1950's.
The Boxster S, with its more powerful 3.2L straight 6 came in 1999 to answer the critics who said the baby Porsche could handle more power. The 'S' is now the class leader with exceptional handling, powerful braking and 160mph plus performance all in an unburstable package.
Specification was revised in 2002 with mild body re-sculpting and a modest 10bhp power increase.
