Porsche created 30 road legal GT1s as homologation specials to satisfy GT racing requirements. Their efforts were not wasted, as the racing version took first place at Le Mans in 1998.
The GT1 is loosely based on stretched and widened 911 road car but for the first time with a mid-engined layout. It shares the same lightweight carbon fibre and kevlar bodywork with its sibling racer, right down to the huge rear wing. Performance is explosive with 60mph arriving in just 3.5 seconds and 100mph coming just 3.6 seconds later. Stopping power is equally phenomenal with 8-piston calliper brakes and ABS.
All 30 GT1s were left hand drive and retailed at a cool £600,000 back in the late 90's.
