Profile |
|
The Alpine name was already in use in the UK so Renault launched their new supercar as the GTA V6 Turbo in 1986.
The glass fibre body of the GTA not only looked good but had an exceptionally low drag co-efficient of just 0.29. The rear engine layout may pose on the limit handling problems but the bonus was superb Porsche like traction off the line. The model became the A610 in 1991 with a widened body and 250bhp 3 litre engine.
A very capable and attractive car, sales of the GTA never really took off outside of the French home market, despite the cachet of the racing Alpine name.
