1991 saw Mercedes-Benz Advanced Design Team create the C112 concept, envisaged to be a road going version of the Group C Sauber C11 racecar.
Power was courtesy of the Mercedes M120 6-litre V12. Top speed was estimated at 192mph and 0-60mph in under 5 seconds.
The Carrozzeria Coggiola styled Aluminium/Kevlar bodywork bore a close resemblance to the C11, but featured Mercedes' trademark gull-wing doors.
Despite it's intention as a road going racer, the interior was resplendant with leather and aircon, plus state-of-the-art tech such as a GPS, active suspension, air brake, rear-wheel steering and even active aero. Indeed, the C112's downforce was calculated to be in the region of 2200 lbs at 190 mph.
Despite taking many orders, Mercedes' new management sadly decided against a production run. Surely a huge mistake in hindsight.
