The astounding single seater electric McMurtry Speirling has taken the supercar world by storm with a succession of unbelievable performance records. Not only did it break the long standing Goodwood hill climb record with 39.08 seconds (outperforming Formula One cars), it went on to set records for 0-60mph (1.4 sec), 0-100 mph (2.6 sec) and the quarter mile (7.97 sec). Note: The figures here were set by the track only version, but the forthcoming road-legal version will hopefully be almost as quick.
The secret lies not just with the 1000 bhp/ton power to weight ratio, but also the extraordinary fan system which sucks the car onto the road with 2000kg of downforce from standstill, rising to 2250kg at 150mph.
At just 3.2 metres long, the Speirling looks oddly proportioned, a little like a squashed Batmobile, but is most definitely fit for it's intended purpose.
Will be interesting to see what (if any) modifications are made to transform it into a £2m road legal track monster.
