The electric Renault 5 E-Tech forms the basis of their first electric hot hatch, in the form of the A290.
Modest for an EV, it only outputs 220hp from its single electric motor, but that's still enough for 0-60mph in around 6.5 seconds, although top speed barely creeps over 100mph. Handling promises to be more impressive though, thanks to multi-link rear suspension tuned by the same people that bought you the sublime A110.
The 52-kWh battery delivers a range of up to 380 km WLTP, making the A290 a real daily driving prospect.
The A290 is a good looking car with compact, muscular bodywork, looking especially good in the optional Alpine Vision Blue paintwork. There are some nice distinctive features such as the X shaped headlights and Alpine stitched Nappa leather.
Prices for the Performance variant start from around £35k in the UK, with the limited Première Édition coming in around the £40k mark.
