Following the 1967 concept, Alfa Romeo introduced the production Montreal coupe in 1970.
Power was courtesy of a 2.6 litre V8, pushing out around 200hp. This doesn't sound much in todays world of 400hp hot hatches, but with a kerb weight of just 2800 lbs, the Montreal was pretty quick in it's day, with 0-60mph hit in around 7 seconds and a 137mph max.
Unfortunately the Montreal was let down by it's handling, with inadequate suspension leading to pitch and roll in the corners.
The sleek bodywork was designed by the legendary Marcello Gandini at Bertone and had several distinctive styling elements. This included the signature stacked cut-outs on the C-pillar, and the unique slatted headlamps.
UK deliveries started in 1972, but the oil crisis of the mid 1970's and an expensive £7k asking price bought an end to production of the Montreal in 1977.
Fully restored examples are now fetching up to £80k on the classic market.
