Honda's sixth generation Type-R (based on the 11th Gen Civic) was launched in 2022.

Powered by essentially the same 2-litre turbo engine as the 5th Gen, power is slightly up to 325hp, transmitted through the faithfull 6-speed manual gearbox. This extra power, along with suspension tweaks and sticky Pilot Sport Cup 2s, improved on the 5th Gen's Nurburgring FWD lap record, with an impressive time of 7min 39sec (bridge to gantry).

The previous gen Type-R's notoriously aggressive styling has been toned down a bit, with less of the stuck on spoilers look, but still with the triple exhaust! The alloys have dropped in size to 19 inches, but do have wider Michelin tyres. The interior retains the gharish (but supportive) red bucket seats.

At £50k in the UK, the Type-R is expensive. However, you do get what is considered the best raw driver's hot hatch on the market - shame it's not four wheel drive like some of it's equally pricey rivals.
