The last of the air cooled 911s, the 993 Carrera took a lot of its styling cues from the legendary 959. Flush fitting angled headlamps were fitted along with flared wheel arches and smooth front and rear valances. Braking was superb thanks to abs assisted cross drilled and vented disks plus the tail happy handling of previous 911s had finally been tamed.
Several model options were available including the 4 wheel drive Carrera 4, the turbo bodied 4S and the unique Targa with its electrically operated sliding glass roof.
While the 993's successor, the 996, is acknowledged as the superior car, many enthusiasts believe the 993 was the last in the line of the true 911s.
