The blisteringly fast Caterham JPE (Jonathan Palmer Evolution) was developed and named after the former British Grand Prix driver.
Caterham managed to squeeze an incredible 250bhp out of the normally aspirated 2 litre engine which coupled with a bodyweight of just 515kg gave phenomenal acceleration. 60mph was despatched in a then world record 3.5sec and 0-100mph-0 was achieved in just 12.4sec, again a world record until bettered by the slightly more expensive Mclaren F1 LM!
Just 53 were made during the 5 year production run. When considering the price rather than the practicality, the JPE must rank as one of the performance car bargains of all time.
