As the name suggests, the Caterham Super Blackbird makes use of the 1.1 litre engine from the superfast Honda Blackbird motorbike. Spinning to over 12,000 rpm, the tuned bike engine delivers exactly 200bhp, which when fitted to the lightweight Caterham body produces a power to weight ratio of nearly 500bhp/ton. Acceleration is therefore dramatic, with 60 from rest in a mere 3.5 seconds.
The Caterham is incredibly basic with no roof, windscreen or even doors! This makes the Super Blackbird a non-starter for road use but with sequential bike style gearshift, there can surely be no better vehicle to be in on a track day.
