The ballistic R500 is the fastest Caterham since the nutty JPE and one of the fastest point to point machine available today.

Evolving from the Superlight R in response to rivals like the Westfield FW400 and Lotus 340R, the R500's 230bhp only has to move a waif like 1000lbs resulting in rocket like acceleration. 60mph comes up in just 3.6sec, followed by 100mph in a mere 8.7 and to top it all the R500 recently set a new record 0-100-0mph sprint of just 11.4sec. Handling can be a little on the frantic side but a record 7min 55sec lap of the Nurburgring shows it can be devastating in the right hands.

Practicality is not a strong point. There is no real roof, windscreen or doors, but as a track day tool you can do little better.
