Profile |
|
The K-Series engined 21 was a very different car to the usual Lotus 7 styled machines with which Caterham had made their reputation. It was more practical with a fully encompassing body, had attractive sleek lines and had lost little of the performance of its track based stablemates.
The 21, however, was not a success, even in it's most powerful VHPD (Very High Performance Derivative) form. Caterham traditionalists only wanted the classic 7 shape, while the more mainstream market balked at the £30k asking price when alternatives like the Lotus Elise were better built, not considered 'kit cars' and also considerably cheaper.
