The Mantaray succeeded the old Mantara model in 1999 and was the first Marcos to feature more modern styling to compete with its contemporaries such as TVR on a more equal footing. The glass fibre Mantaray was a genuinely good car with decent build quality, excellent handling and a wonderful engine note from its Range Rover V8.
Unfortunately, Marcos experienced financial difficulties and looked to have gone bust in early 2001, only to be bought back from the brink at the last minute.
