Named after the famous Le Mans straight, and celebrating famous Bentley victories there in the 1920's and 30's, the Bentley Hunaudieres concept debuted at the 1999 Geneva Motor Show.
Based on a Lamborghini Diablo chassis, and powered by an 623bhp 8-litre 'W' configuration 16 cylinder engine, this 4wd mid-engined Bentley was capable of over 217mph. This engine, in a modified form, eventually found its way into another VW group car, the Bugatti Veyron.
Indeed, there are other similarities between the Hunaudieres and the Veyron. They were both designed by the same man (Hartmut Warkuss) and feature near identical interiors.
It could be said that the Hunaudieres was the first step in the long gestation of the Bugatti Veyron.
