Profile |
|
Ariel have opted for Honda power in the new Atom 2, successor to the popular Atom. A whopping 300bhp is on offer from the supercharged Civic Type-R engine. This is enough to propel the featherweight Atom to a world record 1.3 seconds to 30mph, then onto 60mph in a McLaren equalling 3.2 seconds.
It's not all good news though. There's no doors, no roof and no windscreen! Plus the engine is mounted directly to the body frame so vibration is a problem and the brakes are disappointing considering the low body weight. However, the distinctive looks and rabid performance are more than enough to make up for the Ariel's shortcomings. Anyway, what other car can accelerate so fast for just £29k?
