Born the Tuscan R, then renamed the T440R, the Typhon (as it is was latterly known) proved to be a commercial flop for TVR with only 3 sold during it's painful 5 year gestation. The 400bhp 6 cyl powerplant from the Tuscan S provided drive for the Typhon, with 60mph arriving in around 4 seconds and a 180mph max. No arguing about the performance then, but handling was scary and reliability was (unfortunately) to TVR's usual standards!
There was talk of the Typhon becoming the first supercharged TVR with a mammoth 580bhp and 215mph max. But talk was all it ever was, as TVR's fortunes hit the dirt and the Typhon, along with all it's siblings, came to a grinding halt. That is a shame, because despite their many faults, TVRs were fast, good looking and a serious presence on the road.
