The flagship of Vauxhall's new 'R' performance range, the £37000 Monaro looks a good bet to jump straight into the competitive super saloon market.
The Monaro is basically a rebadged UK version of the Australian Holden Monaro (aka Pontiac GTO in the USA). Impressive performance is courtesy of the C6 Corvette's 6.0 litre V8 tuned to 400bhp, although strangely for a V8, you have to rev quite highly to get the best out of it.
The Monaro is raw but is certainly an attractive proposition. Good looks, practicality and decent handling, along with a wealth of standard equipment for under £40k.
