The E36 M3 may not be as highly prized for all out handling as it's fabled predecessor the E30, but if you're looking for a fast, practical 4 seater coupe that is equally at home on road and track then there are few better candidates for the money.
The E36 actually arrived in the UK in 1994 but this, the more powerful 'Evo' version, followed in 1995. Power was uprated to 321bhp, helping to placate BMW enthusiasts who thought the new car was overweight and lacking in grunt. The resulting performance was exceptional, with 60mph arriving in just over 5 seconds.
Three versions were made, a coupe, a convertible and a rare 4-door saloon which accounted for only a very small proportion of those produced.
