Profile |
|
The ultra desirable 993 RS followed in the tradition of earlier 'Renn Sport' models by shedding over 100kg in weight off the standard 993 Carrera. Most of this weight loss was through the removal of 'luxuries' such as the leather seats, airbags, electric windows and sound insulation. This added to the RS' reputation as a lean mean racer for the road. This was the first Porsche to use the new 3.8 litre engine pumping out an impressive 300bhp. 60mph now arrived in under 5 seconds then on to a healthy 173mph max.
For the ultimate enhancements, Porsche also offered the RSR or 'Club Sport' pack. While the engine was untouched the bodywork gained more muscle in the form of a sizeable racing style rear aerofoil. Prices of the 1120 produced remain high (the 47 RHD examples even outpricing the Turbo) which is testament to the respect in which the RS is held.
