Many thought that it was a step too far when Mercedes announced the leviathan 612bhp SL65. Surely that power wouldn't be useable. Surely the SL55 was already more than enough? They were wrong. Performance is accessible and also astronomical. 1000Nm of torque shoves the SL from rest to 200kmh in a scant 12.8 seconds, on it's way to a near 210mph max (de-restricted of course)!
The 65 is crammed full of goodies such as active body control, speedshift auto box and 8-pot disks, but with a £50,000 premium over the already superb SL55, is it value for money? Depends how you look at it. Is it an over expensive alternative to the SL55 or an equally fast, bargain priced SLR? Restyling took place in 2008.
