Slotting neatly into the Porsche lineup between the 911 and Boxster S, the new Cayman coupe is intended as a pure drivers car.

The 987C Cayman is based on the Boxster S (sharing it's bonnet, wings, doors and lamps) but with power increased to 291bhp, carefully chosen not to tread on the 911's toes! Driver involvement is the priority which is reinforced by the Cayman's superb Nurburgring laps times - faster even than the 997.

Porsche launched with the £43,000 'S' model, soon to be followed by the standard car and possibly a Clubsport version in the near future.

2009 saw a mid-term refresh (known as the Gen 2), with a power increase to 320bhp, and some tasty options such as a limited slipp diff and a superb 7-speed PDK gearbox.
