The second generation W209 Mercedes CLK 55 AMG took the looks of the stylish £100k CL and formed them into a more compact and practical shape.
Available as both a coupe and a convertible, both versions were powered by AMG's 5.4 litre V8, kicking out a healthy 362bhp, with 376 lb/ft of torque. The AMG was capable of a limited 155mph maximum speed (a derestricted option was available from the factory).
A full AMG bodykit was standard, with leather and burr walnut finish for the interior trim.
The 55 was replaced by the even more powerful 63 AMG from 2007, which became the safety car for Formula One parade laps during the late 2000s.
