Displayed at the 2001 Detroit Auto Show, the Ford 49 concept joined Ford's 'Living Legends' line up of retro-appeal supercars coupled with modern technology.
The hot rod like 49 was inspired by Ford's 1949 cruiser, and featured an all glass upper body with hidden pillars for super smooth lines. The chromed 20 inch alloys provided an eye catching contrast against the jet black body.
Power was from a Thunderbird 3.9 litre V8, driving via 5-speed automatic transmission, with a beautifully finished engine bay in black and chrome.
A production run was hinted at the time, but unfortunately never came to pass. However, a single non-running convertible version was subsequently produced.
