Profile |
|
Previously holder of the fastest production car record with the Ultimate Aero, SSC took back the record from Bugatti and Koenigsegg with the astonishing 300mph Tuatara.
Powered by a 5.9 litre twin turbo V8, the Tuatara produces up to 1750hp (on E85 flex fuel) and over 1000 lbft of torque. An extraordinary 1400 bhp/ton power to weight ratio catapults the hypercar to 60mph in just 2.5 seconds.
The Tuatara's styling is simply stunning, with a pillar less black domed windscreen dominating the picture, while inside, there is enough high tech to power a space shuttle.
The prototype first appeared back in 2011, but after a protracted 7 year development, SSC finally bought the Tuatara to market from 2019, with a limited production run of 100 units.
Following the well documented controvery of the Tuatara's first '316mph' run, SSC have since made a second attempt achieving a 283mph average, now officially the fastest car in the world. Hopefully they will edge past the 300mph barrier in the near future.
A customer Tuatara subsequently reached 295mph in 2022. SupercarWorld will use this figure as the new top speed.
