The third generation (C216) CL is basically a coupe version of the all conquering Mercedes S Class saloon. The 6.3 litre V8 is from the S-Class, producing 518bhp and 463lbft of torque. Despite actually being heavier than the S-Class (due to structural reinforcements for the lack of a 'B' pillar), performance is on a par with the other 63 AMG series Mercedes.
A significant update occurred in 2010 with the replacement of the naturally aspirated 6.3L V8 with a more powerful 5.5L Twin Turbo V8, dropping the 0-60mph time to just 4.3 seconds. Bodywork and interior were also restyled, and a long list of technical options were offered, such as crosswind stabilisation, blind spot assist and split screen multimedia display. The optional AMG Performance Package added another 100 bhp power and 75 lbft of torque for a 186mph max.
Production continued until 2014 when the slow selling CL was replaced by the new S-Class Coupe.
