The new M4 replaces the M3 Coupe and Convertible in BMW's M power line-up. In line with current thinking, BMW have adopted a twin turbo 3 litre straight 6 for the M4, to replace the outgoing M3's V8. Power is a meaty 425bhp, coupled with a significant 406 lbft of torque, available from just 1800rpm.
Numerous weight saving measures are present including a carbon fibre reinforced plastic roof, but the M4 is still a bigger and heavier car than it's predecessors.
Sport, Sport + and comfort handling modes are available, with the former giving the best overall feel for fast road driving. Occupants are surrounded by a quality leather trimmed cabin and will enjoy an enhanced engine noise thanks to Active Sound which pumps engine sound through the car's stereo speakers!
Costs are slightly higher than the outgoing M3 Coupe, but considering the performance on offer, the M4 represents exceptional value. Legislation is forcing manufactures to switch to turbocharging, so expect to see other follow BMW's footsteps with their sporting lines.
