1969 saw Pininfarina produce the ultimate wedge shaped concept car in the form of the 512S Berlinetta Speciale.
The name suggests that this striking concept was based on the Ferrari 512S Can-Am car, complete with mid-mounted 5-litre V12. However the reality was a non-functional 6-litre V12 from a 612 race car, mounted onto a salvaged 312P chassis.
The Filippo Sapino designed 'wedge' bodywork was a departure for Ferrari, who had always favoured curves over straight lines. Being too low for conventional doors meant access was through a 'flip-top' canopy, with a complementary rear canopy for the engine bay.
If anyone can tell SupercarWorld what happened to this stunning concept, we'd love to know, as there seem to be no records out there!
