The new 620R has a tough act to follow in the shape of it's legendary predecessor the R500, but if raw statistics are anything to go by, it has it covered. Over 310bhp from the supercharged 2 litre Ford Duratec, launch the 620R to 60mph in well under 3 seconds, on to a decent top speed of 155mph. Indeed, the 620R is officially Caterhams fastest ever road car, and has the highest power to weight ratio of over 550 bhp/ton.
Caterham are asking around £50k for the 620R. It is basic (with no abs or airbags) but this is a reasonable price for a car of it's pedigree in this class. There is now tough competition in the track day market from the likes of Ariel, BAC and Radical, but Caterhams long tradition of thrilling low weight, high power Super Sevens should see the 620R continue where the R500 left off.
