Profile

Honouring the original 911 R racecar from 1967, Porsche have gone back to basics with their stripped back, driver focused new 911 R and created what most believe to be the greatest drivers 911 ever.

Bucket seats, manual gearbox, lightweight construction and a high revving, naturally aspirated flat 6 all gel together to make a thrilling driving experience. Indeed, it is a significant achievement to extract almost 500bhp from the 4 litre engine without resorting to turbo charging or supercharging. PCCB ceramic brakes are also standard fit, providing awesome stopping power from the Rs 201mph top speed.

The 911R can be easily distinguished from its 991 stablemates by the bespoke 20 inch alloys and distinctive twin red or green racing stripes running the length of its body.

A limited production run of 991 examples will be produces from 2016, at a surprisingly high list price of £137k. it may have gained universal praise as the definitive drivers 911, but surely with the GT3 RS in their 15 model 991 line-up, they already had the ultimate road going Porsche?
