Profile |

Inspired by the SLS AMG GT3 race car, the SLS AMG Black series represents Mercedes' hardest ever road car.
Weight is dropped by 70Kg, power increased to 622bhp but torque is actually lower than the standard SLS. Performance is pretty much the same as the SLS, but handling and driving character are improved for better track oriented driving. Suspension is stiffened, track is widened and braking is enhanced by the standard fitment of modified ceramic discs. Bodywork has been made more aggressive by the fitment of wider wheels with flared arches and new front and rear diffusers (and optional carbon wing), while the interior receives bespoke bucket seats plus an alcantara and carbon fibre retrim.
Superb though it is, the Black series commands a hefty £70,000 premium over this base SLS. This pitches it into serious supercar territory, alongside the likes of Lamborghini's Aventador and the Ferrari F12. It will be interesting to see how the three pointed star fairs in such company.
