The GTI Roadster is not just a mocked up shell of the Gran Turismo virtual racer, but a fully functioning supercar with a twin-turbo V6 (from the Touareg) boosted to 500bhp to give 0-60mph in 3.5sec and a ballistic maximum speed of 192mph. Yes, 192mph … in a Golf.
Spawned from the2013 Design Vision concept, the GTI features roofless speedster bodywork, butterfly doors and a humungous rear wing (that does actually give genuine downforce). A 7-speed sequential gearbox and VW's 4-Motion all wheel drive system complete the package.
There's no chance that the Roadster will ever see production, but it's nice to see what VW can do when given carte blanche to design the ultimate Golf supercar.
