Profile |

The AMX/3 was the third in a series of prototypes cars, created in a production ready form by famed Italian coachbuilders Bizzarrini, with additional input from BMW. Power was provided by a naturally aspirated 6.3 litre V8 pushing out 340bhp and an impressive 430 lb/ft of torque. 170mph was the result - an astonishing figure back in 1970.
Unfortunately for AMC, the AMX/3 launch coincided with that of the De Tomaso Pantera, which had all the appeal of the AMC but at a significantly lower price point. This effectively ended the AMX/3 after just six examples were produced, with the AMC name all but disappearing following a merger with Chrysler in 1987. A sad ending to what could have been Americas answer to the european supercars of the day.
