Audi's second generation RS3 (but third generation of the A3) arrived in 2015 in Sportback (estate) form, claiming to be the fastest hatchback on the market.
362bhp (and more significantly 343 lbft of torque available from just 1600rpm) chanelled through Audi's excellent 4WD and DSG dual-clutch systems, catapulted the RS3 from 0-60mph in just over 4 seconds.
The RS3 certainly looks the part, with a full RS bodykit, lowered suspension (with optional adaptive damping) and 19 inch alloys. The interior is to Audi's usual impreccable standards, with heated Nappa leather and 6 inch TFT display as standard.
At £40k it is priced comparably with main rivals from BMW and Mercedes, but is severely undercut by Ford's equally capable third generation Focus RS.
2017 sees a model refresh, with the RS3 uprated to 395bhp, improving top speed to 174mph and dropping the 0-60mph below the magic 4 second mark.
