Mercedes' formidable A45 is designed to appeal to a younger audience than than the traditional AMG market. With the most powerful 4 cylinder engine around (376bhp from just 2 litres), the A45 is a serious performer, hitting 60mph from rest in a shade over 4 seconds. Handling with the stiffened suspension is epic, with a sub 8-minute lap of the Nurburgring to boast about.
Despite being a humble hatchback, the A45 offers some seriously desirable tech such as 4WD and a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox. The sporty interior houses an 8 inch TFT infotainment system and tactile microfibre seating.
At £42000, it may cost the best part of £10k more than some of its competitors, but the A45 is a high quality product, distilling what makes Mercedes AMGs great into a compact, high performance hatchback.
