The new B4 is renowned BMW tuner Alpina's answer to the Bavarian's own M4. As with most Alpina's, the ethos behind the B4 is one of speed but with luxury and refinement, rather than the all out driver focused experience of BMW's M division. That being the case, the B4 is certainly fast (0-60mph taking a near identical 4 seconds to the M4) but has a more relaxed, GT character.
The B4 is actually based on a 435, but with a twin-turbocharged 3 litre pushing out just over 400 bhp. Alpina dispense with the BMW's run-flat tyres for a more compliant ride. Economy is reasonable considering the performance at 37mpg, while emissions are an impressive 177 g/Km CO2.
The saloon comes in at about £59k, with the convertible attratcing a £3k premium. Whether it is the B4 or BMW's own M4 that you choose is an entirely subjective decision. They are both extremely capable but very different machines.
