Almost 25 years on since the original WRX Sti, Subaru's legendary rally bred saloon returns with a 2.5 litre turbocharged four cylinder engine producing 300 hp.
As in the Gen 4, the Impreza name has been dropped, to distinguish this from 'lesser' models. This fifth generation model includes technical goodies such as Vehicle Dynamics Control, Drivers Control Central Differential and Torque Vectoring - it now even comes with free in-car WiFi. Suspension has been stiffened, which provides thrilling handling, but at the cost of an unacceptably hard ride on anything but the smoothest roads. Interior is also old school, with little in the way of options.
Once the clear leader in the fast hot hatch market, the ageing WRX has fallen behind new cars such as the AMG A45 and Focus RS, which offer far more for your £30k investment. Sadly, it was finally cancelled in 2021.
