Profile |
|
Both a road car and a successful race car, the desirable 250 GT SWB (Short Wheel Base) is one of the most prized classic Ferraris, fetching up to £10m at auction.
The Bizzarrini devloped SWB was powered by the relliable lightweight Colombo 3 litre V12 producing up to 280hp, a huge output back in the early 1960s. This meanta 150mph+ max with 0-60mph arriving in around 6 seconds. This was also the first Ferrari road car to feature all round disc brakes.
The beautiful Pininfarina styled bodywork was assembled by Scaglietti, fashioned from either steel or the more desirable aluminium. Customers could opt for Competizione (race) or Lusso (street) spec, with many options overlapping the two.
Only 176 were made in total, with around 90 in street legal guise, until succeeded by the 275 in the mid 1960s. This rarity may explain their continued appeal amongst wealthy collectors.
