Profile |
|
Originally designed for the track, Ferrari were unable to comply with the FIA regulations at the time, meaning that the 250LM found it's way ino privateer racing and as a road legal supercar. Indeed, the racing version of the LM was the last Ferrari to win at Le Mans in 1965.
Derived from the 250 P sports prototype, the LM (Le Mans) featured a powerful 3.3 litre V12 pushing out 320bhp. The Pininfarina styled bodywork was produced by Scaglietti, and featured state of the art (for then) all round indpendent suspension. Interior trim was spartan (as befits a true race car) but certain concessions were made for road use.
Just 32 LMs were built in a three year production run from 1963, making it even rarer than the legendary 250 GTO. Auction prices reflect this, with the most prized examples fetching well over £10m!
