Profile |

Loved and loathed by Ferrari enthusiasts in equal measure, German tuners Koenig Specials took the Italian's 512BB and created what could be considered to be the world's first hypercar.
The Strosek designed wide body kit featured hugely flared arches filled by BBS racing alloys with super-wide tyres, Testarossa style slatted cooling ducts and compulsory huge rear wing. Even more extravagant were Willy Koenig's modifications to the fabled 5 litre flat 12. An extra 290bhp was extracted thanks to the addition of twin turbochargers, taking the Boxer's output to a whopping 650bhp, unheard of in the mid 1980s. Koenig claimed a maximum speed of around 205mph. If verified, this may well have been the world's first 200mph road car.
Around 30 Boxers were modified by Koenig, the process adding around 50% to the price of the base 512BB. Ironically, used Koenig Boxers are now worth far less than their unmodified 512BB counterparts!
