Aston Martin's Tickford division took Ford's 2.8 litre Capri and strapped on an IHI turbocharger at 7.5 psi with Garrett intercooler. Room was made for the turbo by replacing the standard viscous fan with an electric unit, along with relocating the battery into the boot. The resulting 205bhp sounds unimpressive by modern standards, but it only had to move 1200kg, so 0-60mph took around 6.5 seconds, a very quick time for the mid-1980s. Braking was all round discs, replacing the ancient rear drum brakes of the stock Capri.
The Capri exterior gained a bucketload of wings, skirts and spoilers, while the interior trim featured leather and walnut (on a Capri!).
The Tickford was undeniably fast but suffered from overheating, turbo lag and poor reliability, but has nevertheless gained a cult following, even at twice the price of a standard Capri.
