Profile |
|
The 190e Evo II was the ultimate road going version of the homologated DTM race car, famously driven by a young Ayrton Senna in the late 1980s.
Under pressure form BMW's M3, Merc's 2.5 litre W201 E-class was modified into the 1989 Evo I, making way for the bespoilered and bewinged Evo II in 1990. The 2.5 litre Cosworth engine produced around 230hp at a heady 7200rpm.
Suspension settings could even be changed on the fly from inside the cabin - unheard of in 1990!
Very expensive in its day, the 500 examples produced are becoming appreciating classics. Values have soared to around £300k at recent auctions, fuelled by it's successful motorsport heritage.
