The second generation 'C2' Corvette, was launched in 1963, going through several evolutions during it's 5 year production run.
Available with a 'small block' or 'big block' V8, the range topping 427 'Tri-Power'version put out a mighty 435bhp amd 460 ft/lbs torque - and this was back in 1967! The resulting 0-60mph took just over five and a half seconds.
A steel chassis, shorter wheelbase and independent suspension ensured superior handling to the C1. Interior space, ergonomics and ride quality were also improved. Still only had drum brakes though.
This was the first Corvette to be honed in a wind tunnel, giving rise to an aerodynamically efficiency fibreglass body. the C2 also featured innovative styling features such as the pop-up headlamps, doors cut into the roofline and trademark split rear screen.
Well over 100,000 units were sold before the third generation 'C3' arrived in 1968.
