Available as a coupe or convertible, the third generation of Lotus' trackday specialist Exige was launched in 2012.
Toyota supplied the 3.5 lire V6, pushing out 345 bhp in standard trim through a 6-speed manual box - an auto was available, but who would want that in an Exige!? 0-60mph takes under 4 seconds, and the Exige is good for a 172mph maximum speed.
Bodywork has been widened and extended lengthways by 10 inches over the Series 2, mainly to accomodate the new V6. Handling is better than ever, thanks to Lotus' Dynamic Performance Management system, which optimises traction in the absence of an LSD. Ride is perhaps too firm for British roads though.
Prices started at around £50k in the UK, for this perennial track day favourite. This was a hefty £xk increase over the outgoing S2, but you are still getting supercar thrills at a fraction of the price.
