The 2nd generation E34 M5 was the class leading super saloon of the late 1980s, combining quality and practicality with the thrills of a 340hp rear drive manual.
The M5's 3.5 litre straight six produced an initial 311 bhp, increasing to 3.8 litres and 340 bhp with the 1991 facelift. Despite weighing in at 3600 lbs, the M5 could still despatch 60mph in well under 6 seconds, and easily hit a limited 155mph.
Electronic damper controls allowed the driver to change between 'comfort' and 'sport' on the fly. A rare feature back in 1991. An even harder core 'Nurburgring pack' was also available.
Best of all is the fact that this iconic super saloon can be bought in the UK for the princely sum of £10k. Buyer beware though!
